Truro Hospital Radio are continually seeking new volunteers to help out in this enthusiastic and rapidly developing team. Details of some of the opportunities are listed below.

T.H.R is run entirely by volunteers, you can commit as much or as little time as you feel able. We would like to think that the essence of Hospital Radio is having fun whilst providing a very valuable service, we are currently developing social events for members to meet, outside of the studio.

Presenter

This is often the main reason for wanting to join Hospital Radio and has been the beginning of many successful careers, Sarah Lillicrap, Justin Leigh and David White have all been presenters on Truro Hospital Radio in the past.
We operate a structured training programme so that no matter which presenter you will train under you should receive the same level of tuition.

Your training will include: Presenter
The skills needed to operate the computer system.
Understanding the desk and equipment
Knowledge of our extensive audio library
Presenting skills
Knowledge of our Constitution
Health and safety policies and procedures
RCH Confidentiality Guidelines
Patient Visiting with a trained THR Ward Visitor

Our equipment is expensive and good training minimises damage. Initially you will train 'off-air', when you feel confident using the equipment you will be asked to record a live show. Several Executive members will listen to this. If you pass you will be presented with a certificate and may be offered your own show.

We have a 'Roadshow Unit' used for public address and fundraising, you will learn how to set-up and operate the equipment in the unit and the various other procedures relating to events which THR take part in.

Ward Visitor

Our primary reason for broadcasting is to provide entertainment to those who are in hospital.
The ward visitor presents the personal face of THR to the patient.
A good personality with excellent communication skills and smart appearance will be required.
You will need to have a friendly chat, take the patients name, the details of any artist or song they may like as well as ward details. Following your visit you must phone or take these requests back to the studio to be played at the earliest convenient time.
You will initially train under one of our experienced ward visitors.

Your training will include:
Knowledge of our Constitution
Health and safety policies and procedures
RCH Confidentiality Guidelines

Engineering / Technical

We have a large selection of broadcasting and computer equipment, which needs to be maintained and supported.
It is important to have a number of in-house engineers with training or an understanding in broadcasting / audio equipment in order to diagnose and fix minor problems in a supporting role to the Station Engineer and IT Officer ensuring the general maintenance of both Studio and Outside Broadcast equipment.
However all our equipment is PAT tested by the Trust Electricians, all work carried out must be in accordance with their policies. It will therefore be necessary to work closely with them.

Your training will include: Technical
Knowledge of our Constitution
Health and safety policies and procedures
RCH Confidentiality Guidelines

Fundraising

This charity cannot survive without continual fundraising. Our activities require expensive equipment and maintenance. We raise money by various activities including Sponsorship, Outside Broadcasts and events. We like as many of our members as possible to attend and be actively involved in seeking new funding opportunities.
